Things Life Taught My Kids About Life

THE ASSUMPTIONS
We all try to teach our children the best we know how. Of course, we are all quite different so the lessons are not always the same. I told my kids to look at life itself and this would show them the reflection of what the world's adults are thinking and learn from them. Here is what they observed and learned.
The wisest people led the same lives regardless of their circumstances, regardless of the laws, regardless of all the changes. They saw dignity, honesty and true integritybut there weren't that many. It was the observing of people un-creditable, dishonest and petty to circumstance that provided them contrast...so they could see. I listened to them.
Politics seemed to be a big argument. It never stops. My kids didn't like fighting at home because it never worked. Did all these people in politics find fighting within the family bore fruit? Where did they get this idea from? My kids suggested we build a food supply we could all use...free. I calculated the number and in 2007 that would had been about 470 billion. Hmm, now they had my attention.
They saw people they knew being different people than they knew them to be. Tricky! They saw our facades. They chose to be themselves always - in all ways that they be. I gave it some thought and followed their lead on this one. They were right.
No matter what I said, the only communication that mattered to them was what I was feeling. This was never misinterpreted. Using this as my starting point exposed my intentions so they were known. It bred trust. Simple.
I love to talk but I am grateful I took time to listen. I couldn't hear clearly in all my noise. But they could.
